Transnistria
In 1991 when the Soviet Union dissolved into 15 independent nations, Moldova gained independence. But, there was one area that rejected independence in Moldova, that area was called Transnistria. Transnistria refused to be part of Moldova as they feared that Moldova would reunify with Romania as well as most of Transnistria were ethnic Russians. As Transnistria refused to be part of Moldova, Moldova started attacking them and warning them to become part of Moldova. As Transnistria was about to surrender, Russian troops were told to defend Transnistria and so they did and the Russian-Moldovan battle started. Moldova was very weak at the time, so they decided to sign a peace deal with Russia and Transnistria. Transnistria gained independence, but no one recognises them. Even though Russia never recognized them, they fought for them. #RecongiseTransnistria
